If you caught up with me on Monday, thank you so much for putting up with my Life Update Ranting. I’m more miserable than usually lately somehow. I’ll try my best so the next updates going to be more cheerful.
Mikolajki or St Nicholas Day
I think I have an interesting one for you this time. It’s just a short one about a cute little Polish tradition, that comes around every year 6th of December. Usually, at night of the 5th or very early in the morning on 6th we stuff little gifts under pillows of people that we live with (like partners, friends or parents, siblings etc.), They by no means expensive or big Christmas gifts. They are just little stocking filler treats or small thoughtful gifts. Usually, in Poland, we also include a bunch of chocolates and sweets. This is also such a thing in Poland to get random sweets and chocolate bars for Christmas alongside to your gift. I don’t think it’s such a thing here in the UK, but that’s what we used to do in Poland when I lived over there. I thought it was brilliant, because who doesn’t need some chocolate treats or sweets?
Anyways, that’s kind of cute thing that we do. I guess where it originated is from this little Bible story about St Nicholas and I’m sure that Poland isn’t the only country that celebrates it. It’s really fascinating if you give it a read.
Why did I decide to dedicate a whole post to that?
Because as a child, it was usually that day when I would start to get excited for Christmas. I don’t know, I just felt a bit sentimental today.
Hope you are having a great week! See you tomorrow!
